Our new favorite design element for floral desings are “Succulents”.  Wikipedia defines a succulent as “Succulent plants, also known as succulents or fat plants, are water-retaining plants adapted to arid/dry climates or  soil conditions”. I am sure you have been researching the new trends and colors for the year.  A color that speaks to us for the new year is “Cobalt Blue”.  The Dessy Group, leading manufacturer of bridesmaid’s dresses and bridal apparel, calls it “Electric Blue”.  I love that name for this color, because I feel as though it is electrifying.  This color is so vibrant that it seems to jump off the page.  Below we show “Electric Blue” paired with a beautiful orange.  This color combination is a winner!

“It was a Monday evening in August when Feifei’s friend Tina decided to take her out because she had been down and out for the past couple of months.  Feifei normally did not go out or drink because she was always busy with work and school.  Somehow that Tina convinced her to go out with her.  Clyde frequently went with his friends but this day he wasn’t really in the mood to hang out.  His roommate and close friend Nelson asked Clyde if he could be his designated driver for the night to which he agreed.   Clyde’s intention was to drop Nelson off to the bar and come back to pick him up when he was ready, but on the way there Nelson asked if he could come in with him because he would not stay there for long.  When Clyde walked in the bar, he immediately sat down at the bar and noticed this beautiful girl with her friend across the bar from him.  He was a little nervous and didn’t know how to approach her so he waited till she left for the restroom to go over to her friend to ask her if she could introduce him to her friend.  When Feifei returned, Tina kept her word and introduced Feifei to Clyde.  After a brief conversation Clyde decided to ask for Feifei’s number.  Feifei was a little hesitant but eventually gave her number to Clyde but was still skeptical about Clyde’s intentions.  She even went as far as to give Clyde a lecture stating, “You don’t pick people up at a bar!”.  Clyde’s response was, “You seem like a really nice person and would like to get to know you better.”.  To make a long story short, the next few days after meeting at the bar they couldn’t stop texting and talking to each other on the phone.  They eventually agreed to have lunch at this sushi bar called Sake, which was their first date.  After their first date, they’ve been pretty much inseparable since.”

They are getting married on April 7, 2012 at the beautiful River’s Edge Banquet center located in Patuxent River, Maryland.  The ceremony will be held on the north-east lawn of the venue overlooking the river with breathtaking views of Solomon’s Island. Guests will then be invited inside the venue for cocktails and reception.

Rule #1:  The dresses should all be the same length.  If they aren’t the same the length, the overall look would be distracting.  You want the look to flow.  So, either go with all short, tea-length, or long.

Rule #2:  The girls should all wear the same shoes.  Many would disagree with this rule, but again, we want the overall look to be clean and flow.  Too many differences will again be distracting and take away from the dresses.

Rule #3:  The dresses should made of the same material and/or have a similar design element to pull it all together.

Example 1:  Here is a collection of dresses that is very sleek. Each dress has it’s own look, but it has the angle design throughout the bodice in each dress that pulls the overall look together.

Example 2:  Here is a striking collection of short dresses.  Each dress has a sweeping design with pleats that ,again, pulls the total look together and makes it flow.

Example 3:  This collection of elegant long dresses are all made of chiffon.  They each have a light and flowing feel to them that makes it work collectively.

Example 4:  This collection of long dresses emphasizes the design in the top portion of the dress.  The similarity is in the design at the top and a more simple bottom.

Example 5:  This satin pair is timeless. The similarity is in the design.  Both dresses have tops that drop at the waist.

Example 6:  This set of fun short dresses all have a satin edging at the bottom of each dress.  Even though the designs are different, this one element ties it all together.

Hello all… When selecting colors for their wedding, many brides try to “match” certain colors together.  One easy color scheme that has a major impact is called the “Monochromatic” color scheme.  What does that mean?  Having a monochromatic color scheme would be the use of various tints, shades, and hues of one single color.

This picture depicts the various shades of one color red.  Creating a wedding color scheme of this sort creates drama and can give the room a wow factor.  Lighting plays an important role in this type of design.  Up-lighting around the room has a large impact.  Please view examples of different Monochromatic designs below.
