Fake Wedding Cake?

OK, I stumbled upon a new trend. I must admit this is not my recommendation for every bride. However, if you are a bride on a budget, this may be an option for a 4-tier adorned wedding cake that costs approximately $900. The new rave is a fake wedding cake.

You can order a beautifully decorated “fake” wedding cake. The inside is made of styrofoam, but the outside is decorated with real icing and details. This cake would sit on display at your reception just as your real cake would. Now, you would also purchase a sheet cake from your local baker, grocery store, Costco, etc. and have the caterer precut it in the kitchen. The fake cake would be delivered to you and costs approx. $250+. The price varies depending upon the level of details, if you had a real top layer to cut, etc. Sheet cakes cost approx. $100+.

Actually, I think this is a great idea. It can be used in different ways. When my husband and I were married, we chose a Castle themed wedding cake. The cake in the magazine served over 550 people. Well with us having on ly 350, we didn’t need so much cake. But in order for the baker to maintain the same “look” and “woe” factor to the cake, he used several sponge cakes and decorated them just as he would have the real cake. It was BEAUTIFUL and you couldn’t tell the difference!
